Gaming changes may be in wind

A legislative committee is set to consider an attempt to legalize existing game preserves around Indiana where hunters pay for a chance to shoot deer confined inside high fences. The House Natural Resources Committee could vote Monday on the proposal intended to allow four existing hunting preserves to stay in business while not allowing any new ones to open. State Rep. Matt Ubelhor of Bloomfield says the legislation is needed to resolve a lawsuit dating to 2005 over the state Department of Natural Resources' attempts to shut down the preserves.

Woman and unborn child killed

A weekend car crash claimed the lives of a woman and her unborn child in southern Indiana. The accident occurred in Terre Haute on U.S. 41. Sheriff‘s officials say 29-year-old Erin Shook was driving a van that collided with a pickup truck. Shook was ejected from the van, which then rolled on her. Shook was transported to an Indianapolis hospital, where she died of her injuries. Doctors were unable to save the unborn child.

Men from Evansville and Winslow drown

Two men are dead after their fishing boat capsized Saturday in Patoka Lake.  Matt Buroker of Evansville and Ryan Dowdell of Winslow were taking park in a fishing tournament when their boat began taking on water. Two other companions were rescued when another fisherman heard their calls for help. Department of Natural Resources officials say the water temperature was around 45 degrees at the time of the accident.
