A few hundred activists were in the Indiana Statehouse early Monday afternoon, well before the Senate Rules Committee voted 8-to-4 in support of the proposed state constitutional ban on gay marriage. Supporters and opponents had filled the hallway, and some testified before the vote along party lines. Republicans voted for it, Democrats did not. It now goes to the full Senate. The House approved the proposal last month, after removing language that would ban civil unions.
