Evansville-Vanderburgh schools move up one letter grade in the once a year assessment from the Department of Education. The system's ranking of "C" moved up from the "D" it received the year before. Superintendent David Smith says in comparing Evansville with other large Indiana systems, the EVSC leads the field. In nearby counties, Warrick, South Gibson, and North Posey received an "A", while Mount Vernon, East Gibson and North Gibson got a "B".
