A woman who became a State Representative less than two weeks ago files papers to keep the job. Holli Sullivan of Evansville was selected by Republican Precinct leaders to succeed Suzanne Crouch in the district representing Vanderburgh and Warrick Counties. Gov. Mike Pence appointed Crouch to an open position as state auditor. Sullivan has been active with the group known as Women Right of Center. She'll be challenged by Democrat Vanderburgh County Commissioner Steven Melcher, a man known for being left of center.

Congressman Larry Buschon files for re-election. The Newburgh Republican says he spent his career as a doctor fighting every day to improve the lives of his patients. He also says he opposes the Administration's new EPA regulations that he says put coal industry jobs and affordable energy at risk. Buschon says that over the past three years, he has been one of only four members of Congress to have two bills signed into law. He says they protect businesses from burdensome regulations, help put veterans back to work, and would improve the nation's transportation systems.

The Evansville Water & Sewer Utility has been closely monitoring the impact and issues stemming from the chemical spill into the Elk River in Charleston, West Virginia, last week. It's coming our way, expected to arrive in Evansville Monday. The Elk dumps into the Ohio and Evansville draws its water from the Ohio River, so some residents have been concerned.
