SCOTUS won't change Planned Parenthood ruling

The U.S. Supreme Court will not act on a lower court ruling that blocks Indiana's effort to strip Medicaid funds from Planned Parenthood. The justices did not comment today (Tues) as they rejected the state's appeal of a federal appeals court ruling in favor of Planned Parenthood. Indiana is among more than a dozen states that have enacted or considered laws to cut off taxpayer money to organizations that provide abortion services. read more

Man accused of battery, impersonating an officer

An Evansville man is arrested for allegedly threatening a witness in a murder trial. Police responded to a home in the 1300 block of South Governor late Monday night. A woman in the home told officers that a man had knocked on the door, announced he was with the "EPD" so she opened it, he came in and punched her in the face. And after a brief struggle, the man ended up on top of her with a knife pointed at her chest. The woman told investigators that the man threatened her about testifying in a murder trial.

Baby dies after fall in Henderson restaurant

The Vanderburgh County Coroner's office says a baby who died after falling at a Henderson restaurant had injuries that could not have only happened in a fall. Officials suspect Shaken Baby Syndrome played a part in the death of 13-month-old Mason Brown. Investigators want to talk with anyone who was inside the Henderson Captain D's Friday night, when the child reportedly fell off the counter. Police say the grandmother took the little boy to the restaurant where his mother worked.

Posey fire sends four to hospital

Two adults and two kids are taken to the hospital after fire sweeps through a Posey County home. Smith Township and Poseyville firefighters were called to 10,965 North Street in Cynthiana just before 1:30 Tuesday morning. They found smoke and flames coming from the home. The four occupants were treated for burns and scrapes and taken to a hospital. The injuries were not believed to be life-threatening. The fire destroyed the home, and melted siding on neighboring houses.

Veterans honored on Memorial Day

Memorial Day ceremonies were held across the Tri-State to honor the men and women who served and died for their country. VFW Post 11-14 conducted its annual service at Alexander Memorial Park Cemetery on Evansville's West Side. Post Commander Joe Misuraca said he was pleased to see a good-sized crowd turn-out for the event. Misuraca spent six years in the US Army and says the local VFW post has nearly 3,000 members. Veterans and their families stopped by to pay tribute to those have served. They also heard a 21-gun salute and taps.

Former Rescue Mission building goes down, green space take the space

Evansville Rescue Mission's former men's shelter is being razed and turned into a green space. The Evansville-Vanderburgh Public Library System owns the building at 300 SE Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and says the demolition will take approximately three weeks. Once the shelter is gone, grass and limited landscaping will be planted. In the future, the library is considering adding a walking path, a rain garden, or an exhibition garden to the site.

Hoosiers may be eligible to receive refunds in e-book investigation

Hoosiers who bought E-books published by Penguin Group will receive 1.15 million dollars in refunds as part of a multi- state investigation into price-fixing and collusion. The agreement must still be approved by the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York. Indiana has previously settled with four other publishers.

Police warn they're looking for careless and aggressive drivers

Indiana State Police, as well as city and county authorities across the state, are increasing road patrols. The Click It or Ticket campaign is in high gear. Indiana has 96% compliance with the seatbelt law, but many would like to see that figure increase. Last year, Indiana police wrote more than 18,000 tickets to drivers who weren‘t wearing seatbelts. Another program, that targets agressive driving runs for a few more weeks. read more

Highway 61 Bypass at Boonville on "fast track"

The long-sought Highway 61 bypass around Boonville is being moved from the decidedly slow track to the fast track by INDOT. INDOT official Troy Woodruff says bids will be taken on the project in December of 2014 and work should begin in spring of 2015. Lt. Gov. Sue Ellspermann says the work should be complete by the end of 2016. The officials thanked Alcoa for donating right-of-way along Highway 61 near their Warrick County smelter. Legislators and Boonville officials who want heavy truck traffic out of the downtown applauded the announcement.
