Jury selection underway for Weisheit murder trial

Jury selection is underway in the murder trial of Jeffrey Weisheit. The Vanderburgh County man is charged with killing his girlfriend's children, 8-year-old Alyssa Lynch and 5-year-old Caleb Lynch, by setting fire to their home while their mother was away in April 2010. The State is seeking the death penalty against the 36-year-old Weisheit, who faces murder and arson charges. The trial was moved to Clark County, across the river from Louisville, because of publicity in the Evansville area. The trial in Clark Circuit Court is expected to last three to five weeks.

Body found in Evv house

We hope to soon learn the identity of a body found in an Evansville home. Officers were called to 2642 Culverson Avenue Friday night for a report of suspicious activity. They found the body inside the vacant house. Reports from the scene indicate the body had been there for several weeks. Vanderburgh County Coroner Annie Groves says an autopsy will be performed Monday.

Weisheit Trial starts Monday

The murder trial of a Vanderburgh County man accused of killing his girlfriend's two children begins Monday. Jeffrey Weisheit's trial will take place in Clark County near Louisville. Some 3 years ago, Weisheit allegedly started the fire at his girlfriend's house that killed her kids. She wasn't home at the time. More than a half-million dollars is expected to be contributed by local taxpayers for Weisheit's defense. The trial is expected to last three to five weeks.

Old National faces lawsuit

Old National Bank will be facing a class action lawsuit after the Indiana Court of Appeals struck down an attempt to appeal the decision. The Courier and Press reports the suit was filed at the end of 2010 by several Old National customers, who claim the bank structured debit card and ATM transaction posts to increase overdraft fees. read more

North H.S. grad drowns in Oklahoma

A recent graduate of North High School drowns while in Oklahoma. The state's Highway Patrol says the body of 18-year old Tessa Christian was found in more than 25 feet of water at Fort Cobb Lake Thursday morning. Christian was swimming with family members when she went under the water and failed to surface. Gusty winds and storms delayed the recovery effort. Authorities say Cobb was living in Lafayette, Indiana. She graduated from North in December.

I-69 repairs made in Gibson County

It took an estimated quarter-million dollars in repairs, but a portion of Interstate-69 in northern Gibson County has been fixed. An approximately 250-foot area at the Patoka River Bridge and the Pike County line had dropped a few inches soon after it opened. It's on top of what had been an underground mine. The state paid for the repairs. An INDOT spokesman says pavement markings and rumble strips will likely be installed during the coming week.

Two hospitalized after Gibson County crash

Smoke and flames were everywhere, after investigators say the driver of a southbound delivery truck ran a red light, before his truck hit a pick-up truck and SUV. It happened early Friday afternoon at the Highway-41 intersection with County Road 100 North near Princeton. read more

Three injured - all expected to recover - after Gibson County crash

Gibson Co. Sheriff George Ballard credits heroic action by firefighters and others at the scene of a three-vehicle accident with minimizing injuries following a fiery crash at 12:30 Friday afternoon. Ballard says none of the three victims suffered life-threatening injuries. Both northbound lanes of 41 are open and one southbound lane is open at County Road 100.

Tragic crash on Highway 41 in Gibson County

A tragic scene this afternoon on Highway 41, about a mile north of Princeton at County Road 100. A large box truck and a car collided head-on. Witnesses at the scene said the driver of the truck was able to get out, but it's feared that people didn't get out of a car. Ambulances and the Lifeflight helicoptor stood by as volunteer firefighters put out the flames. All four lanes of Highway 41 were closed following the crash. At latest word from the Gibson County Sheriff's Dept., the northbound lanes were open but the southbound 41 lanes were closed.

Grand jury to consider charges in baby injuries

A Henderson County grand jury will consider charges against a man accused of seriously injuring his infant son. 24-year-old James Andrew Blackston of Henderson was arrested after the baby was admitted to St. Mary's Medical Center with what authorities called a "skull fracture from blunt force trauma and a broken rib.” Police say Blackston admitted the child was crying and wouldn't stop, and that he tried to throw the 7-month-old onto a bed in the bedroom of his mother’s home. read more
