In observance of Domestic Violence Month, law enforcement agencies in most states in the nation served a variety of warrants on thousands of persons. The Vanderburgh County Sheriff's office and U.S. Marshal's Service took part in the action starting early Wednesday morning. Thirteen deputies and the service served 21 arrest warrants on 11 persons in Vanderburgh County for Failure to Pay Child Support, Domestic Violence, Failure to Register as a Sex Offender, Resisting Law Enforcement and Possession of Cocaine.

A man convicted of beating his girlfriend to death is given the maximum sentence for a single murder conviction in Indiana - 65 years in prison. Judge Robert Pigman handed to the sentence to Racxon Cruze McDowell. The Vanderburgh County Coroner said 24-year old Rachel Lomax suffered 21 separate injuries during a severe beating in her apartment on Mount Vernon Avenue in July of 2002 after a night of drinking.
