It had to be a troubling sight, seeing smoke rising from the already burned-out debris of First Christian Church in Owensboro. OPD Officer Michael Hathaway tells WIKY News that officers arrested a 16-year-old boy accused of setting fires Sunday afternoon among the debris at 700 J.R. Miller Boulevard. The teen faces charges of burglary and arson and has been sent to a juvenile detention center in Bowling Green. Evansville and federal officials are working on a deal to curb combined sewer overflows. Evansville and other cities have until May 31st to finalize a plan with the Environmental Protection Agency. EPA officials want 90% of the overflow eliminated in 20 years, but the city wants 30 years to keep sewer rates from increasing too rapidly. Water and Sewer Utility Director Allen Mounts says they will hold public hearings to give updates about the project as the May deadline approaches.
