For one day each year, the smell of chili wafts through the air on the University of Evansville campus, and rows of colorful bowls wait to be filled. Select your ceramic masterpiece (made by UE art students), eat the chili for lunch, and keep the bowl. 11 a.m.-1 p.m. $7 for first bowl; $10 for each additional bowl (limit 5).

At the two-day, family-oriented Harvest Festival & Hayrides, horse-drawn hayrides escort visitors through Wesselman Park. There, they'll learn not only about how nature prepares for the cold weather but also the preserve’s inhabitants, including raptors and reptiles. 5-9 p.m. $7 per person, $25 per family (maximum of five), free for children 3 and under.

To celebrate the Halloween season, Boo at the Zoo adds a slight spook to the normal zoo tours by offering treat stations, games, crafts, and a haunted tram ride for guests who dare to have fun with a little fright.
